Title: Analysis of Microsoft’s “We All Win” commercial
Purpose Statement: Within this analysis I will explain how
Microsoft’s “We All Win” commercial perfectly achieves its goal of getting the
business more recognition.
Thesis Statement: The “We All Win” commercial by Microsoft
perfectly accomplishes its goal in making its impact on the industry through
the interviews conducted, when the ad was aired, and the setting of the video way
more memorable.
Introduction
Microsoft uses
Body Purpose
Main Point 1: The interviews with the children who have a
disability helps covey the message that Microsoft is trying to get across.
a. The
interviews with all the children allow us to actually see how the impact that
the adaptive controller has already affected many lives.
1)
The commercial begins by introducing us to all
the children who are part of the commercial. Pretty much introducing them and
asking what things that they like to do. They are all typical children things
to do like play with their friends, go to school, and most importantly
according to this commercial. Play video games.
2)
The commercial capitalizes on the way that these
children are so unfortunately disformed. How that disability has prevented them
from bonding with their friends through the form of video games. Then they are
introduced to the adaptive controller.
3)
Once the children have had time to sit down and
have time to adjust and play with the adaptive controller for a couple of
times. We then get to hear from them again about how it differs and makes it
easy for them to play along with everyone else.
b. The
interviews are meant to strike emotion in us. Make us feel for these children before
and after they receive the adaptive controller.
1)
By interviewing all of these children we get a
real life look at who and when this product would get used. Some people might
watch this commercial and think to themselves “When would this get used?” Through
the interviews we get a first-hand look at how this would actually get used and
how happy it makes the children.
2)
Just by what the kids have to say makes us feel
that this is much needed thing. Like Owen says within the commercial, “No
matter how your body is, or how fast you are, you can play”. Showing us that
this really is a controller for anyone, and not just for kids with physical
disabilities.
Transition: The interviews conducted touched anyone who watched
which thankfully there were plenty of people watching this when it first aired.
Main Point 2: The air time of this commercial was crucial to its success.
a. The
timing of this commercials airing was crucial to its success. Which was
fortunate because it aired during the most watched television program of each
year, the super bowl.
1)
If one were to air an ad any other time of year
typically people skip over them or just do something else that takes their
attention away from the commercial that is airing. Thankfully that is not the
case when this ad aired. The super bowl is the one time of year when people
actually look forward to watching the commercial.
b. The
audience that it reached during its air time is also a very important aspect.
1)
Every Super Bowl Sunday there are millions of
parties all across the nation. Friends and families gather around a TV and
watch it for hours. Now I can speak from personal experience when I say that
this commercial reached out to people. During the super bowl this year when I
was watching this commercial in particular once it was finished, I looked over to
a group of my aunts sitting in the corner. Each of them had tears in their eyes
and could not get over about how useful this device is and how happy it made
these kids. Proving how the air time of this commercial is so important because
everyone might not always watch a football game, but the super bowl is a
different story.
Transition: The setting of where you watch the commercial is pretty
import, but another important aspect of the actual commercial itself is the
setting where the children are.
Main Point 3: Something that is just as important as the interviews
within the commercial and the air time of the ad is where the ad takes place.
a. This
ad could have taken place anywhere from a high-tech computer lab to an all-white
room with nothing but a television in it.
1)
By having this commercial set in all of these
kids own gaming rooms it really grounds the commercial as a whole, making it
feel real. It takes away the glam aspect and gives us a more real feel as to
how these children live and play from day to day.
2)
It also helps to show them hanging out with
friends playing these video games because I feel that everyone can relate to
doing that.
b. This
setting is just more eye appealing.
1)
By recording this commercial in all of these
families homes it just kind of pops in general. The color just kind of pops on
screen when you see it. No one wants to see the generic white background, but
everyone wants to look at color.
Body
Effectiveness
Main Point 1: The “We All Win” adaptive controller commercial is
effective because it strikes emotion.
a. It’s
just something about hearing it from little kids that is the most effective.
1)
Everyone is so used to hearing things from
adults, so when a kid has something really important to say everyone listens. And
what these kids have to say is
affecting the video game industry forever.
b. However,
I do believe that this commercial could have been more affective if they
interviewed more parents. When we get to see the one set of parents start to
tear up over their child’s happiness. I think if there was more of that parents
could relate to this more.
Main Point 2: This air time is the most effective time there is.
a. There
is no better time for this commercial to have aired. The Super Bowl is statistically
proven to be the most watch televised program every year. Most people don’t
even watch the Super Bowl for the actual football game, but for the commercials
shockingly.
b. If
this were aired any other time the effects that it would have would be
completely different in a bad way.
Conclusion
1.
Main points recap
